Goldenseal
Hydrastis canadensis
Goldenseal is a traditional North American herb recognized by its distinctive golden-yellow root. It has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations and is most commonly used in small amounts as part of herbal tea blends and bitter botanical formulas.
Traditionally Used For:
• General herbal wellness blends
• Digestive-style bitter blends
• Seasonal herbal preparations
• Traditional botanical formulas
Flavor:
Very bitter, earthy and strong.
How to Use in Tea:
Goldenseal is a powerful-tasting herb, so only a small amount is generally needed. Add approximately ¼ teaspoon of dried root to 8 ounces of hot water and steep for 10–15 minutes, then strain. It is usually blended with other herbs rather than enjoyed alone.
Pairs Well With:
Echinacea, elderflower, peppermint, ginger, marshmallow root, licorice root and horehound.
Blending Tip:
Use goldenseal sparingly in blends. Peppermint, licorice root or ginger can help balance its naturally strong bitterness.
Package Size:
Goldenseal is sold in a ¼-ounce package.
