Hawthorn Berry

Crataegus spp.

Hawthorn berries come from the hawthorn tree, a member of the rose family with a long history in traditional European and Western herbalism. The berries are commonly used in teas, syrups and herbal blends made to support everyday heart and circulatory wellness.

Traditionally Used For:
• Supporting heart and circulatory wellness
• Supporting healthy blood flow
• General cardiovascular wellness
• Digestive support
• Antioxidant-rich herbal blends

Flavor:
Mildly tart, fruity and slightly sweet with a gentle earthy flavor.

How to Use in Tea:
Use approximately 1–2 teaspoons of dried hawthorn berries per 8 ounces of water. For best extraction, gently simmer for 10–15 minutes, then strain. The berries can also be steeped longer in a covered cup or teapot.

Pairs Well With:
Hibiscus, rose hips, lemon balm, tulsi, ginger, cinnamon, elderberry, linden and green tea.

Blending Tip:
Hawthorn berry pairs especially well with hibiscus and rose hips for a bright, tart herbal blend. Lemon balm or tulsi can soften the flavor and make a smooth everyday wellness tea.

Other Uses:
Hawthorn berries are also commonly used in herbal syrups, tinctures, infused honey and traditional botanical preparations.

Caution:
Hawthorn may interact with medications, particularly medicines used for heart or cardiovascular conditions. Anyone taking prescription medication should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use. Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been well established.
