Rose petals are cherished for their delicate floral aroma, gentle astringency, and calming properties. They are often used to promote relaxation, support skin health, and uplift the mood. Here’s how to incorporate rose petals into teas, tinctures, and infused oils:
In Teas:
- Floral Infusion: Steep one to two teaspoons of dried rose petals in a cup of hot water for about 10 minutes. This tea offers a soothing, mildly sweet flavor and is known for its ability to ease stress, support digestion, and enhance skin radiance from within.
- Herbal Blends: Rose petals pair beautifully with ingredients like chamomile, lavender, or hibiscus for a calming and aromatic tea. They also combine well with cinnamon and cardamom for a warming, heart-supportive infusion.
In Tinctures:
- Alcohol Extraction: Fill a jar one-third full with dried or fresh rose petals, then cover completely with high-proof alcohol (such as vodka or brandy). Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place, shaking it daily for 4 to 6 weeks. Strain out the petals. The resulting tincture can be taken in small doses (a few drops in water, tea, or under the tongue) to help with emotional balance, heart health, and stress relief.
- Glycerin Tincture: For a non-alcoholic option, substitute alcohol with food-grade vegetable glycerin. This method creates a sweeter tincture that is gentle enough for broader use, including for children under supervision.
In Infused Oils:
- Cold Infusion: Fill a jar with dried rose petals and cover them completely with a carrier oil such as jojoba, sweet almond, or olive oil. Let the mixture sit in a warm, dark place for 4 to 6 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain out the petals. This infused oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, massage oil, or base for homemade salves and balms.
